Nature sketching walk with Melissa Doran at Leighlinbridge – the Garden Village


Melissa Doran, award-winning illustrator of Naturama, the number one bestseller in Irish children’s non-fiction leads a nature drawing walk along the magical setting of the River Barrow in Leighlinbridge. Bring your sketchpad and pencils and draw what you see along the way. Melissa will show you how she makes her illustrations and gives tips and insights that you can apply to your own work. You don’t have to be an experienced sketcher to join in – just come along and have fun. Nature and wildlife is a theme relevant to every generation so this is an afternoon for all the family to enjoy. Prepare for your senses to be captivated and explore the flora, fauna, plants, animals and birds along the River Barrow. Expect to go rooting in hedgerows and spotting birds! Afterwards return to Leighlinbridge Parish Centre where you can spend more time in the company of Melissa and complete your drawings

Melissa Doran

Melissa Doran grew up in Leitrim and studied architecture and digital media technology before becoming an illustrator. She is strongly influenced by the beauty of nature and tries to incorporate a playful narrative into her drawings, which are created using a combination of hand drawing and digital collage. She illustrated the bestselling nature book for children, Naturama, and the companion book, My Naturama Nature Journal, which were both written by Michael Fewer and published by Gill Books.
