Sow it, Grow it, Eat it.

Jekka McVicar has been leading the way on the cultivation and the use of herbs for the past three decades. Started in 1984, her farm has evolved from supplying garden centres to an online mail order business and in 2013 it became a unique herbetum and school. In this talk Jekka covers all the key principles of growing and propagating herbs and her passion for the environment and following sustainable, organic and environmentally sensitive practices.

Jekka believes that there is nothing more pleasurable than eating soemething homegrown and the talk will conclude with a tour of the herbs in Kilgraney.

Biography – Jekka McVicar

Jekka McVicar is an organic grower of herbs and a horticultural author, designer, consultant, judge and moderator. She is renowned for her passion and knowledge of herbs, is internationally recognised for growing and designing sustainable herb gardens and health and well-being gardens.

She has an impressive list of credentials, which include the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), Vice President and Ambassador for Health & Wellbeing and the RHS top accolade and many more. She has also been awarded the 2012 Gardeners Media Guild Life Time Achievement Award. Jekka is also a best-selling author of five books including Jekka’s Complete Herb Book that has sold over 1 million copies.

With the launch of her new website you can find Jekkapedia, an ever-growing online encyclopedia of herbs that includes everything grown in the Herbetum but some new herb additions Jekka found irresistible. Jekka has also been busy with her latest book, “A Pocketful of Herbs”, which was published by Bloomsbury Press in March. This compact little A-Z of herbs has been called a “genius little book” by Jamie Oliver and contains information on over 300 varieties of herbs.
