The Carlow Garden Trail is delighted to welcome an Gairdín Beo as an affiliate member of the Carlow Garden Trail. The Carlow Garden Trail attaches great importance to community-led green spaces and the vital roles they play in supporting biodiversity, protecting the environment and promoting both the health of the planet and human wellbeing and so while not a conventional garden, the inclusion of An Gairdín Beo reflects the progressive attitudes to gardening in County Carlow. This community-created green space represents an important expression of a wider interest in environmentalism, something that is also of key concern to the modern gardener.
An Gairdín Beo is a two-acre community garden in the centre of Carlow Town where people work together and then reap the rewards together. The overall vision of the project is of a space in which diverse people can connect more to nature, to the growing and making of food and to each other. The ethos of the garden is based on an ecological orientation, on valuing diversity, sustainability and indigenous species.

Monday to Friday: 9.30am – 4.30pm
Saturday & Sunday: By arrangement
Admission: Free
Facilities: Car park.

Please note that the garden may be open outside these hours and visitors are always welcome. If you want to arrange to visit the garden outside opening hours, please contact us by email or on Facebook. When visiting, please sign our visitors book located in ‘The Stables’ building.
Finally, because we encourage garden users, especially children, to feel and explore nature, we welcome guide dogs only.
An Gairdín Beo actively encourage and support team building days by working with business’ in the community.If you’d like to talk more about how we can facilitate your group or employees by offering gardening and grow your own workshops for staff or by arranging team building days, please contact us.
