Neil Porteous at Huntington Castle and Gardens
Neil Porteous, head gardener at the outstanding Mount Stewart Gardens in County Down and worldwide plant hunter is your personal guide for a tour of the fascinating gardens in Huntington Castle. Explore the many delights of these historic surroundings, from the 17th century parterres to the ancient Yew Walk, the “Wilderness” woodland, the kitchen gardens, the greenhouse, the Italian Gardens and the recently restored Rose Gardens.
After your tour head to the castle to experience the guided tour, personally escorted by a member of the Durdin-Robertson family, whose ancestry stretches all the way back to the original owners and builders of the castle in the 17th century. The tour also features the world famous Temple of Isis in the castle dungeons. The Big Houses of Ireland’s Ancient East have rich and usually complex pasts, where the twists and turns of Ireland’s history have been played out and Huntington is no different.
